Using Design Thinking for Arduino projects

Frameworks:

1. Empathize Observe user(s), engage, watch & listen to them on what needs they have

2. Define Ideate (research, equipment)

3. Prototype & Test (create & test)

  • Research (technical):
  • Prototype (or Create): Build & identify what each prototype is testing
    • Draw circuit diagrams using Tinkercad or Fritzing software (free 2016 ver 0.9.3)
    • Fritzing: create schematic and circuit diagramsdownloadonline tutorials
    • PureFlow (iPad app): to draw flowcharts to show procedures in a programme (or sketch in Arduino)
    • Trouble-shooting
  • Test: Show the user - don't tell
    • Describe developmental process: data collected, analysis, changes, outcomes

Assessment/Presentation

  • Powerpoint slides or Poster A1 size
  • Video presentation
  • Use recycled material to create casings and structures for prototype

Extensions

  • Do market research and compare all properties of commercially available products with your prototype
  • Use Maker Uno board - has inbuilt buzzer, LEDs & pushbutton
  • OR use Arduino Nano board (much smaller than Arduino Uno)
  • Use half breadboard or mini-breadboard
  • Use minimum number of wires or flat wires for compact circuits
